Harry Potter to Overtake Bond as Top Grossing Franchise

Harry Potter Half-Blood Prince

Variety reports that Harry Potter is poised to overtake the James Bond film franchise with the opening of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. This film will push the Harry Potter franchise's box office earnings (currently at $4.48 billion) past the $5 billion grossed by the Bond films. This does not account for inflation - Harry Potter would have much farther to go if it did.
The largest chunk of the franchise's total gross has come from overseas, where J.K. Rowling's book series has been translated into 67 languages.

"Half-Blood Prince" was originally set to open last November, but the studio pushed back the release. The postponement sparked an outcry from Potter fans that has morphed into pent-up demand around the world.
Variety also says Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is already selling out more theatres than Transformers 2 did ahead of its release.
On Monday, MovieTickets.com reported 300 sold-out shows for "Half-Blood Prince" at the domestic B.O., including more than 950 midnight showings. That's more than the presales for this summer's "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen."

Online ticketing service Fandango reported that "Half-Blood Prince" is the fastest seller of the year and the biggest of any Potter title.
There's no question Half-Blood Prince will be a summer blockbuster. The films have been amazing consistent and true to the books. It has also been wonderful to have the cast grow along with the characters.

Warner Bros. Considering Never Ending Story Remake

Never Ending StoryThe story really never ends for Never Ending Story. Hollywood Reporter says Warner Bros. is looking at a reboot of the 1980s children's fantasy film.
The new pic -- which original producer Dieter Geissler also will produce and Sarah Schechter and Jesse Ehrman will oversee for Warners -- will examine the more nuanced details of the book that were glossed over in the first pic.

Wolfgang Petersen directed and Neue Constantin produced the original for Warners, which earned a respectable $20 million when it was released in 1984. The film has had a long life on home video and an even larger influence on popular culture, prefiguring Harry Potter and other present-day children's fantasies.

A sequel directed by George Miller came out in 1990 and earned $17 million; a third movie followed in the U.S. in 1996 but quickly went to video.

Those familiar with the project emphasize that it is in its early stages and that writers have not been attached.
There are quite a few clips from the film on YouTube so the original film is remembered by many and watched by today's youth.

Pixar Cars Short Appears Ahead of Bolt

Tokyo Mater

Pixar premiered its first Disney Digital 3-D short film called Tokyo Mater at theatres this past week. The short film appears before Walt Disney's new film, Bolt. Academy Award-winner John Lasseter directed the short which is the fourth in Disney-Pixar's "Cars Toons" series, inspired by the 2006 Cars animated film

In Tokyo Mater a routine tow lands Mater the two truck in Tokyo, where he is challenged to a drift-style race against a gang leader and his ninja posse. With the help of his friend, "Dragon" Lightning McQueen, and some special modifications, Mater attempts to drift to victory and become "Tow-ke-O Mater, King of all Drifters."

"I'm delighted to be back in the director's chair for the 'Cars Toons' series," said Lasseter. "Mater is one of my favorite characters from Cars and is the definition of true friendship. The world has grown to love Mater as much as we do, and we are excited to take him on new adventures with his best friend, Lighting McQueen."

Sprout Offers Snooze-a-Thon to Help Kids Sleep on Christmas Eve

Sprout Snoozeathon

Sprout is an airing an 11-hour straight "Snooze-A-Thon" on Christmas Eve for parents trying to get their over-excited little ones settled down and ready for bed. The 11-hour, uninterrupted block on Sprout will showcase nighttime host Nina and her puppet sidekick Star from The Good Night Show snoozing comfortably on the set, along with clips of characters from preschool favorites like Sesame Street, Dragon Tales, The Hoobs, Pingu and Berenstain Bears catching some zzz's. Parents can use the Snooze-fest to show children that even their favorite television friends are fast asleep waiting for Santa to arrive.

"Parents have told us that bedtime is the most challenging time of day, and getting children settled in on Christmas Eve can be even more difficult," said Andrew Beecham, senior vice president of programming for Sprout. "We help parents wind down their kids every night with The Good Night Show, but wanted to do something unique and fun for this special evening."

The channel could probably help adults fall asleep too - not that exhausted Santa-playing parents are going to need the help.

New Pajanimals Show Stars Four Cuddly Puppets

Pajanimals

PBS Kids Sprout has announced Pajanimals, a show featuring a new group of puppet characters from The Jim Henson Company. The show will begin Sunday, November 2, 2008. Pajanimals features four soft, cuddly puppets created by LA-based artist Jeff Muncy (Pet Alien) and designed and built by the Jim Henson's Creature Shop. Pajanimals entertains preschool viewers with bedtime-themed songs that focus on issues like sleeping through the night and being comfortable with the lights out.

Pajanimals features Sweetpea Sue, a shy, smart pony who never forgets her bedtime routine of brushing her teeth, washing her face and putting on her PJs; Squacky, an excitable duck who sometimes has a hard time settling down at night; Cow Bella, a creative, well-mannered cow with an Italian accent who encourages the rest of the bunch to "do the right thing" around bedtime; and Apollo, an upbeat, optimistic puppy who loves space adventures but experiences separation anxiety.

"Every parent knows that bedtime battles are no fun for anyone and it is our hope that Pajanimals will help our young audience transition from daytime into a peaceful evening routine," said Lisa Henson. "Sprout is an established destination for preschoolers and their adult co-viewers and is an ideal home for these new characters."

Here's a video preview of Pajanimals.

Jo Jo Turned Down Hannah Montana Role

Jo JoITV reports in the video below that young singing sensation Jo Jo (aka Joanna Levesque) actually turned down the opportunity to star in Disney's hit TV show Hannah Montana. This was before the show became a huge hit on Disney and helped launch the career of Miley Cyrus, who is now starting to overshadow the show. We liked Jo Jo in the fun mermaid movie Aquamarine. Jo Jo's only seventeen and she can both act and sing well so she should manage a successful career of her own without the need for Hannah Montana. Jo Jo has no regrets for saying "No" to Hannah. She's down for far more serious roles including a role in a Lifetime adaptation of True Confessions of a Hollywood Starlet.

Adam Sandler Pelted With Gumballs

Adam Sundler GumballsThis scene of Adam Sandler being pelted with gumballs is from an upcoming fill called Bedtime Story. Cinematical reports that Adam Sandler plays a character named Skeeter Bronson in the film about bedtime stories that start coming true.
He's a hotel handyman who discovers that the bedtime stories he's telling his niece and nephew are starting to come true. When Skeeter realizes his talent, he tries to take advantage of the situation by improving his life, "but it's the kids' unexpected contributions that turn Skeeter's life upside down."

In the picture above (which Disney sent around yesterday as a part of their fall/holiday preview), he finds himself in a shower of what looks like a whole slew of gumballs
This sounds like it could be one of Sandler's better films. These family-focused films starring popular comedians sometimes do very well. This one will be released during the holidays on December 25th, 2008. The IMDB listing can be found here. Will Ferrell starred a hilarious movie with a similar theme where a novel comes true called Stranger Than Fiction.

That brings the animated film's gross to date to $72,214,000. The film stars Tom Cruise, Meryl Streep and Robert Redford, but moviegoers are staying away from Iraq War-themed movies in droves.

It's Not Your Mother's Witch Mountain

The Rock is headed to Witch Mountain, along with AnnaSophia Robb.
AnnaSophia Robb (The Bridge to Terabithia, The Reaping) will play the lead female role in Disney's new version of Witch Mountain. The Andy Fickman-directed fantasy adventure also stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Moviesblog.MTV.com reported Robb's casting and also spoke with the film's director. Fickman told MTV that while his Witch Mountain will not be a remake, it will definitely stay more faithful to the Alexander Key novel than the 1975 film did.

"The original book is a very cool dark thriller. We're pulling elements from that," Fickman told MTV. "It's a much darker movie than in the 70s when they did Escape to Witch Mountain." The helmer added, "It's going to be a pretty bad-ass ride." The latest draft of the Witch Mountain script was penned by Matt Lopez for production company Gunn Films.
Witch Mountain is going to be a "pretty bad-ass ride"? That's absolutely hilarious. Kick the tire and light the fires, we're going to Witch Mountain! Or something like that.

Shaun the Sheep Arrives in U.S.

Shaun the SheepAn animated kids show called Shaun the Sheep will soon be seen by U.S. tv audiences. Shaun the Sheep is produced by Aardman Animations, the producer of hit animated hows like Chicken Run and Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. The animated sheep show is now part of the Disney Channel's prime time Sunday line-up. An Aardman Animations press release says Shaun the Sheep was developed from an Oscar-winning short directed by Nick Park.
Targeted at kids 5-10, Shaun the Sheep follows the comedic misadventures of a young sheep who leads his barnyard buddies into all sorts of funny and calamitous situations, turning peace in the valley into mayhem in the meadow. As a character, Shaun was first introduced (some would say he stole the show!) in director Nick Park's Oscar-winning animated short A Close Shave and his lovable hijinks will surely delight American audiences.

"Shaun was always destined to be the star of his own show," says Miles Bullough, Aardman's Head of Broadcast and executive producer of the series. "The show has been hugely popular with broadcasters around the world and we're thrilled that Disney Channel will bring its enormous marketing expertise to his American debut."
The sheep are awfully cute. Here is a short clip of the Shaun and his sheep pals working out.

Daniel Radcliffe Signs For Last Two Harry Potter Films

Daniel Radcliffe has just signed a contract for $50 million to appear in the last two Harry Potter films.
He will be paid $25 million to shoot penultimate book Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince, and the same amount for the movie of J.K. Rowling's Potter finale, The Deathly Hallows. Of course, after taxes, commissions to lawyers, agents and managers, he won't see that much of the cash, but it at least allows him to explore and experiment with his acting.

The money's also a nod towards the fact that the studio can't do the next Harry Potters without him - plus an acknowledgement that the boy wizard tag could harm him in the future. In any event, he's cleverly carving out a post-Potter career and, as he proved with Equus on the London stage this year, he's serious about his chosen profession. Daniel didn't miss a single performance at the Gielgud Theatre, insisting he go on even when incapacitated with flu.

    *****

Daniel added: "Obviously, I'm in a very fortunate position where I don't have to do things for the money. I can simply do them because there's an interesting character and a good director involved." He continued, without acknowledging or discussing an amount: "The money is absolutely fantastic and I'm very grateful, but it's not the main thing that drives me. Being on Fortune [magazine] lists is all very nice, but I am my own person. What people write about me doesn't make me who I am."

After he launches Harry Potter And The Order of Phoenix in Tokyo, London Los Angeles and New York, he will join David Haig and Kim Cattrall in World War 1 drama My Boy Jack, for Ecosse Films. He then begins preparing to film The Half-Blood Prince, again with director David Yates - somehow scheduling in Equus on Broadway as well as shooting The Deathly Hallows.
The salary seems fair, considering how much the films gross. Also, given Britain's high tax rates, say goodbye to at least half of that figure.

Shrek the Third Tops the Box Office

    Photo of Josh Holloway

Shrek the Third ruled the box office this past weekend, making $121,629,270. In second place was Spider-Man 3 which made $29,022,026. In third place was 28 Weeks Later which made $5,454,168 in its second week.

In fourth place was Lindsay Lohan and Jane Fonda's George Rule, which made a miserable $3,745,880 in its second week of release. We think people are looking at it and saying "rental." We look at the reviews and think "not even a rental."

    Nickelodeon to Launch Bubble Guppies

    Bubble Guppies

Nickelodeon is debuting a new animated kids show in 2008 called Bubble Guppies. The show will be targeted at preschoolers and is set in a CGI-animated underwater classroom.
Bubble Guppies is a new interactive, animated variety show for preschoolers set in a vibrant 3D, CGI-animated underwater classroom. Bubble Guppies has an emergent curriculum: ideas that emerge from preschoolers' own discoveries. Each episode will delve into a preschool topic from a variety of angles as the cast and viewers at home explore the swaying kelp forests, fantastical coral reefs, and undersea gardens of their aquarium-inspired surroundings. Bubble Guppies is created by Robert Scull, who also serves as executive producer on Nick Jr.'s The Backyardigans, and Jonny Belt, supervising art director and co-executive producer of The Backyardigans. Scull and Belt also developed the series along with Janice Burgess, creator of The Backyardigans.
There are other animated cartoon shows aimed at tots like Scholastic's The Wonder Pets (technically photo-puppetry). Nickelodeon already has a massive animated hit in SpongeBob SquarePants. SpongeBob has over 60 million+ monthly viewers. Nickelodeon is probably hoping for a similar hit at the young preschool level with Bubble Guppies.

Daniel Radcliffe Talks Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Daniel Radcliffe discusses the next Harry Potter film, Harry Potter adn the Order of the Phoenix, which will be released July 13, 2007. Daniel says the film is darker than the others and that Harry is becoming a more interesting character as the series progresses.
"On an emotional level there's much bigger stuff than I had to do in the fourth film, like obviously what happens to [a key character] and Harry's reaction to that," Radcliffe, 17, said in an interview during a break in filming last September at Leavesden Studios outside London.

In Order of the Phoenix, based on J.K. Rowling's book, Harry returns for his fifth year of study at Hogwarts and discovers that much of the wizarding community is in denial about the evil Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes). The new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, Dolores Umbridge (Imelda Staunton), leaves the students unprepared to fight Voldemort, forcing Harry and his friends Hermione (Emma Watson) and Ron (Rupert Grint) to form "Dumbledore's Army."

Unlike the previous film, The Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix is more about political intrigue and the search for the truth. "There's no major physical action set pieces, other than, of course, the final standoff between Voldemort and Harry and Harry and Voldemort and all the Death Eaters and the Order of the Phoenix," Radcliffe said. "That's going to be pretty spectacular, I think." Radcliffe added: "Harry goes through what every teenager goes through, in a way. He feels angry. And, of course, Harry's feelings are exacerbated by the fact that he has had all of these troubles in his life, and ... [he] has had people trying to kill him at numerous times, really."

Harry turns to Sirius Black (Gary Oldman), worried that he may be turning into a bad person himself. "There's a lot going on inside of his head, and I think that, for me as an actor, that makes him more interesting to do," Radcliffe said. "And I think, for an audience, he becomes a more charismatic sort of character to watch, because he is so of two different sides."
If you missed it, you can see the trailer for the film here.

    TheTraveling Pants Ride Again

The Traveling Pants are set to travel once again. Sanaa Hamri will direct the sequel to The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Variety reports:
Alcon and Warner Bros. have fitted director Sanaa Hamri into a sequel to the 2005 film "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants." The original core ensemble -- America Ferrera, Amber Tamblyn, Alexis Bledel and Blake Lively -- are all in talks to reprise.

Plan is to begin production June 3, starting in Greece, then moving to New York and Connecticut. The challenge on the sequel has been squaring the availability of the actresses because of TV series commitments, but the hope is that all the actresses return.

Ferrera's career has taken off as the title character of "Ugly Betty." Tamblyn is awaiting word from CBS on a pickup of "Babylon Fields," the Michael Cuesta-directed drama pilot that also stars Ray Stevenson ("Rome"). Bledel had been expected to be done with "Gilmore Girls," but it is now looking like a strong possibility that the show will return. Lively has "Gossip Girls."

Scripted by "Pants" co-writer Elizabeth Chandler, the sequel uses as its foundation "Forever in Blue," the fourth installment of the "Pants" novel series by Ann Brashares. Bits of the second and third books will also be used. The girls once again take different paths during the summer, but remain bonded by a pair of secondhand pants they take turns wearing. Now college age, the girls have storylines that take place in Turkey, Greece, New York, Vermont and Providence. They faced some heavy dilemmas in the original film, but the sequel concentrates on issues 19-year old girls deal with. While the original film was PG rated, the sequel is likely to be PG-13.
Getting the original cast back will be key for this film. Our favorite actress from the original film is America Ferrera who now stars in Ugly Betty, which is just hilarious. We love that show.

SpongeBob Special Gives Nickelodeon Its Best Day Ever

Best Day EverNickelodeon is giddy about the "Best Day Ever" SpongeBob SquarePants special that aired earlier this month. The special followed an all-day SpongeBob marathon. The results were impressive as the "Best Day Ever" special averaged a 12.0/4.0 million kids 2-11, 12.8/2.6 million kids 6-11 and 6.7 million total viewers. 7.3 million viewers also tuned in to watch the SpongeBob movie that Nickelodeon also aired.
In the "Best Day Ever" special, SpongeBob is determined to have the perfect day. His ideal day starts with doing what he loves best -- working at the Krusty Krab, going to meet Sandy for a little Ka-Ra-Tay, jelly fishing with Patrick and topping it all off with Squidward's highly-anticipated clarinet recital. But to his great disappointment, the day does not go at all as he planned. Each of his friends seems to be having a different problem, so naturally he sets out to help them. In doing so, every activity on his perfect day agenda is spoiled. As SpongeBob realizes that he sacrificed his whole day to help others, his friends rally around him with their heartfelt thanks. Brimming with happiness and friendship, SpongeBob realizes that he had his best day ever after all.
SpongeBob is one of the big reasons for Nickelodeon's success. The lovable resident of Bikini Bottom has become a juggernaut in children's television. SpongeBob SquarePants is currently syndicated in 171 markets in 25 languages and consistently rates in the top 3 series among kids in every major market it currently airs in across Europe, Asia, Australia, Latin America and the United States. Nearly 61.4 million viewers tune into the show each month, including 22 million Kids 2-11, 13.7 million Tweens 9-14 and 29.1 million adults.

A Sea of Animated Movies, and Nothing to Watch

If you're starting to think that you've never seen so many animated kids movies in your life, you'd be correct The New York Times examines the current glut of computer-generated animated movies. Now that computer animation is common, there are too many of the movies being made. And audiences are starting to get bored with all the talking animal movies, that all have essentially the same plot.
With more than a dozen computer-animated movies being readied for release by next summer, Hollywood is facing viewer fatigue worthy of Sleeping Beauty. Analysts and industry executives have long warned of a coming glut of computer-animated movies. That time has come. Now, with so many movies for audiences to choose from, some are failing to meet expectations or are flopping outright.

This summer's "The Wild," from the Walt Disney Company, proved anything but for moviegoers, bringing in only $37 million at the domestic box office. The bigger disappointment was "The Ant Bully," produced by the actor Tom Hanks and distributed by Warner Brothers Entertainment. That movie’s powerful ant wizard could muster only enough magic to garner $27 million. By contrast, the debut of "Open Season," the tale of a defiant grizzly bear and feisty mule deer who battle hunters, brought in $23 million over the weekend for Sony Pictures Entertainment, putting it in first place. But only the coming weeks will tell whether it will be widely embraced by moviegoers.

Over the last five years, almost every major film studio has sought to make or acquire the type of movies pioneered by Pixar, which was recently acquired by Disney. At the same time, independently financed animators have ratcheted up production. But while animation continues to be popular with families, audiences complain it is suffering from too much sameness, with movie plots and characters looking increasingly alike. Computer animation is not the novelty it was when introduced a decade ago. Now even actors are animation-savvy. Aside from Mr. Hanks, the popular actor Will Smith has plans to produce an animated film in India. With all the choices, moviegoers are being forced to sift through an increasingly crowded marketplace where quality and brand-name recognition will ultimately reign supreme.

"I think audiences are saying, 'I've seen a lot of computer animation and it's not so special anymore,'" said Julia Pistor, an executive producer of the recent "Barnyard," which was a modest performer, bringing in $69 million domestically. "In that case it's a lot harder for a movie to break through."
The article says that movie execs are churning these things out because tired grandparents need something to do with their grandkids when their ritalin wears out. That makes as much sense as anything: but we'd like to see some more originality in the animated films. Because the last few have been big bores.

Movie to be Made Based on Amazing Live Sea-Monkeys

Amazing Live Sea MonkeysVariety reports that Michael Birnbaum has cut a deal with Transcience Corp. to create a movie based on the Sea-Monkeys toys.
Empire Pictures has struck a deal with Transcience Corp. to develop an animated film and possible franchise from the infamous children's toy line "The Amazing Live Sea-Monkeys." Under the deal, Empire acquired entertainment rights to the line, which has been on the market for 45 years and sold in more than 50 countries.

Empire founder and prexy Michael Birnbaum is focusing first on an animated feature, but possible spinoffs down the line could include a television series and merchandising. Birnbaum currently is meeting with writers to develop a take for the story before shopping the project to studios.

Product line features the tiny pets, which hatch instantly and live up to two years in a special tank. Their bigscreen story will be set in a microscopic ocean world, Birnbaum told Daily Variety.

"I grew up with Sea-Monkeys," he said. "The property's instant name recognition on a global basis makes it a platform from which to launch an animated film franchise."
Sea-Monkeys are still sold today. You can find them on Amazon.com and on the official Sea-Monkeys website. Cinematical thinks Birnbaum might be envisioning success like the Smurfs tv series experienced. However, the Smurfs were much cuter than brine shrimp can be made to be. You can read more about the possible Sea-Monkeys movie at Chud.com, Film Rotation and Comingsoon.net.

Helena Bonham-Carter to Join Harry Potter Cast

Helena Bonham-Carter has joined the cast of the next Harry Potter film. Helena will play Beatrix Lestrange.
Helena Bonham Carter has won the role of evil Death Eater Bellatrix Lestrange in the next Harry Potter film. The Charlie and the Chocolate Factory actress will play one of Lord Voldemort's followers in the forthcoming Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. The 40-year-old star, who has been cultivating quirky roles in recent years but made her name starring in a succession of bodice-rippers, is one of several newcomers to the Potter franchise.

Imelda Staunton is playing dark arts teacher Dolores Umbridge, George Harris is Kingsley Shacklebolt, Natalia Tena is Nymphadora Tonks, Kathryn Hunter is Mrs Figg and a 14-year-old actress, Evanna Lynch, is Luna Lovegood. The fifth big-screen Potter adaptation is being directed by award-winning British filmmaker David Yates, whose other movies include The Girl in the Cafe, Sex Traffic, and State of Play.

Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) will reprise their roles as the close-knit teen wizards. The cast also includes regulars Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Michael Gambon, Gary Oldman, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, Emma Thompson and Julie Walters. The film, which will have a score by composer Nicholas Hooper, is being released next year.
Finally, some good Harry Potter news. Because we really, really don't want to hear any more about Daniel Radcliffe doing a nude scene in the (rather weird and unpleasant) play Equus.

Cars Zooms To First Place At Box Office

Photo from animated film CarsDisney/Pixar's new animated film Cars zoomed to the top of the box office this weekend, making $62,800,000. The reviews for the film weren't great, but desperate parents were thrilled to have a movie they could drag the tots off to for a couple of hours.

The Break-Up starring Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn remained in second place ahead of The X-Men, with a total box office to date of $74,095,000., which is an excellent return for a romantic comedy.

A Prarie Home Companion, starring Meryl Streep and Lindsay Lohan, opened in limited release at 760 theaters nationwide. It made $4,671,000 for the weekend, with a respectable per-theater take.

    Scrat and Castorocauda Lutrasimilis

Scrat from Ice AgeScrat is a prehistoric squirrel/rate creature in the hit animated films: Ice Age and Ice Age: The Meltdown. Many of the ads that promoted the latest movie featured Scrat scrambling after his precious acorn. The ads seemed to have worked as Ice Age: The Meltdown is approaching the $200 million mark at the box office.

Incidentally, a recent National Geographic article says a prehistorical beaver-like animal called Castorocauda lutrasimilis was discovered that pushes the earliest known aquatic mammal back nearly 40 million years further into the past. The beaver-like animal actually lived 164 million years ago during the Jurassic period. There are mammals known to have lived during this period but they are typically very small and not beaver sized. Perhaps, there was a silly Scrat-like creature that lived 160 million years ago as well?

The Voices of Over the Hedge

Over the Hedge Voice ActorsThis photograph shows three of the voice stars behind Dreamworks' Over the Hedge movie. It is unusual because until recently Avril Lavigne was the rocker yelling at Sk8er Bois and singing angst-ridden songs. Today, with her recent makeover, she fits in nicely with actors William Shatner and Bruce Willis. William Shatner is the voice of Ozzie the Opossum and Avril is the voice of her daughter, Heather the young opossum with an attitude. Bruce Willis plays RJ the Raccoon. Nick Nolte, Garry Shandling and Steve Carell also did voice work for the film.

Reviews of the film were very good. Roger Ebert gave the film three stars. USA Today also gave the film three stars out of four.
Over the Hedge, DreamWorks' latest animated offering, is a raucous, funny and fresh look at the 3 C's: conservation, consumerism and consumption (of the excessive and conspicuous kind).

The humanistic and relevant message is conveyed by an eclectic and artfully cast ensemble of voices, including Bruce Willis, Nick Nolte, Garry Shandling, Wanda Sykes, Steve Carell, Allison Janney, William Shatner and Avril Lavigne.

The vividly animated film - based on a comic strip by Michael Fry and T. Lewis - has an appealing balance of comic bits and exhilarating action sequences.

And parents will appreciate a PG-rated family movie that is appropriate for the youngest filmgoers and still clever enough for adults to enjoy.
The film had a big box office score of $38 million over the weekend as parents with small children looked for an alternative to the Da Vinci Code blockbuster. You can find more information about Over the Hedge at IMDB.com and the official movie website.
