Daniel Day Lewis Poses Backstage with Oscar After Winning Best Actor for Lincoln

Daniel Day-Lewis won the Oscar for best performance by an actor in a leading role for his amazing performance as President Lincoln in Lincoln. This was his third Oscar for lead actor.

Meryl Streep presented the Oscar for Best Actor. In his acceptance speech, Daniel Day-Lewis joked that he was going to play Margaret Thatcher and Meryl was going to play Lincoln, before they decided to swap roles. Some of those thanked in his speech included his wife, producer Kathy Kennedy, screenwriter Tony Kushner, Lincoln director Steven Spielberg and President Lincoln himself.
