Gone Girl Wins Box Office for Second Consecutive Weekend

Posted on October 12, 2014

Gone Girl continues to find success at the box office. The film starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike made $26.8 million during its second weekend in theaters. This was just a 28.6% drop from the previous weekend when it topped the box office and made $38 million. The film has now made over $78 million after two weekends in theaters.

Dracula Untold starring Luke Evans had a solid opening. It came in second and made $23.5 million. The new take on the Dracula story also stars Sarah Gadon and Dominic Cooper. Deadline reports that the film is also doing very well overseas.

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day opened in third and made $19.1 million. This was a decent opening for the comedy starring Steve Carrell and Jennifer Garner, but Ben Affleck won the box office battle against his wife.

Alexander was followed by Annabella, the horror film about a creepy doll. The film made $16.3 million during its second weekend in theaters. The Judge, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Duvall, underperformed. It made $13.3 million and finished fifth. There was not a lot of room for The Judge to make box office profits with Gone Girl stealing much of the drama/thriller audience.

The Judge was followed by The Equalizer, Addicted, The Maze Runner, The Box Trolls and Left Behind. You can see the full box office chart for the weekend here.
