Jimmy Fallon and Ellen Barkin Star in House of Cards Spoof

Posted on August 13, 2014

Jimmy Fallon has done some amazing spoofs of television shows, from Downton Abbey to Game of Thrones. Last night he unveiled another spoof, this time of the hit Netflix show House of Cards which stars Kevin Spacey as political mover and shaker Frank Underwood and Robin Wright as his wife Claire.

The show is called House of Cue Cards and it shows how running The Tonight Show is very similar to be a power broker on Capitol Hill. Jimmy does a very nice Southern accent as he channels Spacey. He talks directly to the camera, explaining what's going on. He cannot understand a word his assistant says to him because he always whispers. He gets mysterious texts and pounds his fist on the table when he leaves a meeting with his writers who pitch him terrible joke ideas for the show.

Fallon gets a call from his wife and goes to meet her. Ellen Barkin does a spot on impersonation of Robin Wright as she ponders what to wear. Which one of her many identical black, form-fitting dresses should she choose? Barkin is just amazing. We need to see more of her: she is just hilarious.

Another scene has her and Fallon in a darkened hallway, sharing a cigarette as she intones cryptic sayings in a sultry voice. The gag is that what they smoke keeps changing: an e-cigarette, a pipe and a hookah all make an appearance.

Fallon gets his ribs on at Freddy's Barbeque and gets another mysterious text from someone who says he's going to run again, and to meet him at the subway platform late at night. Fallon shows up in a trench coat to meet a shadowy figure who has murder on his mind. And who might this rival be? It's a surprise, but it's really funny. We're not exactly sure how there will be a sequel, but we certainly hope there is one.

So how did Kevin Spacey take this spoof? He clearly thought it was very funny and zinged Jimmy right back. He tweeted in character as Frank Underwood, "@jimmyfallon the next time you do a parody and call it House of Cue Cards, actually using them would be of help -FU."
