Jurassic World Tops Box Office for Fourth Consecutive Weekend

Posted on July 5, 2015

Jurassic World won the box office again this weekend. This was the fourth straight box office win for the dinosaur thriller. Jurassic World just edged out Inside Out. It made $30.9 million compared to Inside Out's $30.1 million.

Jurassic World has now made $558 million in the U.S. and nearly $1.4 billion total worldwide. It looks like it will easily pass Marvel's The Avengers on the all-time domestic grosses leader list. Avengers made $623 million in 2012 for the third highest unadjusted for inflation domestic gross in history. Titanic holds the #2 spot with $658 million and Avatar is the top grossing film of all-time in the U.S. with its $760 million box office.

Inside Out was followed by Terminator: Genisys, which had an opening weekend of $28.7 million. The film is doing better overseas where it has already made $85.5 million according to Deadline. Terminator: Genisys has a B+ CinemaScore.

Magic Mike XXL made $11.6 million over the weekend. It is not doing as well as the first film but the studio is likely still pleased as the film did not cost much to make and it could do very well on DVD/Blu-ray and On Demand. It has a good A- CinemaScore.

Magic Mike XXL was followed by Ted 2, which had a bad second weekend in theaters. Ted 2's box office earnings plunged 67% from the week before. It was already doing worse than the original. Ted 2 was followed by Max (2015), Spy, San Andreas and Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. You can see the weekend box office chart here.

The Dino's reign will come to an end next weekend with the arrival of Minions, which is expected to have a huge opening weekend.
