Nightcrawler and Ouija Top Weekend Box Office

Posted on November 2, 2014

Nightcrawler and Ouija tied at the box office over Halloween weekend. Each film made $10.9 million. The final numbers could still change putting one of the films in first place. $10.9 million is a small number to win the weekend with.

The horror film Ouija was last weekend's top film. Nightcrawler opened this weekend. It is a thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal as a nighttime crime journalist in Los Angeles. It was written and directed by Dan Gilroy. The film also stars Rene Russo and Bill Paxton.

Brad Pitt's Fury took third place and made $9.1 million during its third weekend in theaters. Gone Girl, starring Ben Affleck, fell just 20% from its previous weekend. It added $8.8 million during its fifth weekend in theaters to bring its total gross to $136 million.

Gone Girl was followed by The Book of Life, John Wick and St. Vincent. Saw returned to theaters for its tenth anniversary over Halloween weekend but there was little interest. The film aired in 2,063 theaters but made only $315 per theater.

You can find the box office chart for the weekend here. Interstellar and Big Hero 6 arrive in theaters this coming weekend and should generate much larger numbers than Ouija and Nightcrawler.
