Emmerich's The Day After Tomorrow, which was released in 2004, took in a whopping $357.5 million overseas and $186.7 million domestically. Sony expects to dominate the worldwide box office this weekend as Roland Emmerich's latest disaster spectacle, "2012," opens across all territories, looking to match the mammoth foreign success of the helmer's "The Day After Tomorrow."We see no reason why the film won't do very well indeed. The special effects look amazing and the idea of indie king John Cusack headlining an action disaster flick is quite intriguing. Cusack says the movie is a satire about the outsourcing of war, specifically the use of private contractors to do the fighting. What's also interesting about this clip is that the Southern California-looking interviewer works for Al-Jazeera, not Entertainment Tonight as you might suppose. Richard Qwest (yes, he of the unfortunate arrest in the park) said that Al-Jazeera offered him a job, but he said that being gay and Jewish that he didn't think it would be a good fit. It looks to us like Richard was wrong: Al-Jazeera is clearly moving onto American media's territory and is hiring lots of American media talent. Trailer is Here An upcoming film that has been getting a lot of buzz is War, Inc., which stars John Cusack, Marisa Tomei, Hilary Duff, Ben Kingsley and Dan Ackroyd. It's a dark political satire that reminds us a bit of the classic Wag the Dog. The film is set in the future when the desert country of Turagistan is thrown into chaos by a riot after a private corporation, owned by the former US president, has taken over the whole state. Hit man Brand Hauser (John Cusack) is hired by the corporation's head to kill the CEO of its competitor. Hilary Duff has a featured turn as Yonica, the girl who puts a scorpion down her pants then proceeds to dance. It's worth seeing for the Hilary Duff Scorpion Dance alone. Plus we love when John Cusack plays a hit man. Here's the trailer: Posted on April 14, 2008 Permalink | Subscribe | | | Comments (View) |
