However, Tyler Perry also gets heavily criticized for some of his characters like Madea. Tyler says the criticism pisses him off. He says his characters are bait for genuine messages. Tyler Perry says his characters are "Disarming, charming, make-you-laugh bait so I can slap Madea in something and talk about God, love, faith, forgiveness and family." The per theater gross was an astounding $10,691. That's good news for Janet Jackson, in particular, who would like to get her acting career going. In second place was The Rock in The Game Plan, which made another $11,506,000. It's gross to date is $59,447,000.
In third place was George Clooney in Michael Clayton which made $11,010,000. We Own the Night, the crime thriller starring Joaquin Phoenix and Mark Wahlberg, came in fourth making only $11,000,000. That has to be a big disappointment for the studio. In fifth place was The Heartbreak Kid starring Ben Stiller which made another $7,425,000. In sixth place was Elizabeth: The Golden Age starring Cate Blanchett and Clive Owen in the sequel to Elizabeth. Opening in relatively few theaters, the film made an estimated $6,183,000.
