Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Fight in First Trailer for By the Sea
Posted on August 7, 2015
The first trailer for Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's film, By The Sea, has finally dropped. Angelina directed and wrote the film which is set in the 1970s. It follows Vanessa and Rolandm a couple who is having marital problems (played by Angie and Brad) who meet another couple at a beautiful resort by the sea in France.
The trailer doesn't explain much. It's very moody, though. As the song "Perfect Day" by Harry Nilsson plays in the background, we see the duo in a luxurious hotel room, fighting, ignoring each other and generally looking pretty glum. They also smoke quite a bit and stare out the window.
So why are they fighting? What is it that they haven't talked about yet? And what's the deal with the other couple? Angelina said that they filmed this in Malta right after they got married and all their friends told them they were crazy for making a film about a marriage that is falling apart. But they did it anyways. This is Angelina's third film that she has directed. The film has a gorgeous look to it and we admit that we're intrigued.
In the trailer Vanessa slaps Roland and kicks him. At the end of one scene, he leaves while she's lying still on the floor. It's unclear whether she's still alive or not. But there haven't been any indications that this is a thriller or a murder mystery. It's an art film, the kind Angelina says she loves but never gets cast in.
Angelina said that to get the fight scenes down she and Brad pushed each other's buttons and took some things from real life. The married couple has not done a film together since 2005's Mr. and Mrs. Smith, when they fell in love. It appears their on screen chemistry is just as great as it always was. Although somehow we don't think this film is going to have a happy ending. Take a look:
