Arnold Schwarzenegger is Back in First Terminator Genisys Trailer

Posted on December 4, 2014

The first trailer for Terminator: Genisys dropped today and it's really good. Because there have already been four Terminator films, this film will feature a timeline that has been changed because Skynet kept sending back Terminators to kill Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke).

The trailer starts off in the horrific future we all know about. Skynet is sentient and it rules the planet. It is bent on destroying the last bit of humanity that is left. John Connor (Jason Clarke) is the leader of the resistance movement. Connor knows that Skynet has sent back a Terminator to kills his mother so he will never have been born. He sends his second in command Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back in time to protect his mother Sarah who he says will be weak and scared. So far, this is exactly the same set up as the original timeline.

But here is where it gets really interesting. Reese goes back in time to Los Angeles, but instead of a confused and terrified Sarah, he gets a trained warrior who saves him from the newest Terminator a young guy posing as a cop. So it turns out that Arnold Schwarzenegger's Terminator ended up going back further in time and actually raised Sarah. She calls him Pops. They know the timeline is scrambled and can deal with it.

Great scenes in this trailer include older Terminator Schwarzenegger battling younger Terminator Schwarzenegger and Emilia Clarke doing an American accent yelling at Kyle Reese: "Come with me if you want to live!" It's convoluted, but if you've seen all the movies it makes sense...so far. Take a look:
