Black Panther Tops A Wrinkle in Time for Fourth Consecutive Box Office Win

Black Panther won the box office for the fourth straight weekend. It made $41.1 million to bring its total gross to $562 million. It is already in seventh position on the U.S. all time box office list. Black Panther was able to fend off its first major challenger, A Wrinkle in Time.

A Wrinkle in Time stars Storm Reid, Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling. A Wrinkle in Time opened in second and made $33.3 million for a $8,371 per theater average. The opening did not meet expectations. The film, based on the novel by Madeleine L'Engle, has a B CinemaScore.

A Wrinkle in Time was followed by the thriller Strangers: Prey at Night. Strangers, which made $10.4 million. It has a C CinemaScore. The Hurricane Heist opened in 8th and made $3.15 million. The film follows a group of thieves looking to rob a major bank under the cover of a hurricane. It has a B- CinemaScore grade.

The other wide-release Gringo in 11th and made just $2.6 million in 2,404 theaters. The comedy thriller may have been hurt by its own trailer, which wasn't very funny. It has a C+ CinemaScore.

This coming weekend Alicia Vikander will look to cap Black Panther's winning streak at four as she takes the role of adventurer Lara Croft in Tomb Raider. Other new arrivals include Love, Simon and 7 Days in Entebbe.
