Common and John Legend when Best Original Song at 2015 Golden Globes

Common and John Legend won the Best Original Song at the 2015 Golden Globes. They won for their song "Glory," which the wrote for the film, Selma.

Common and Legend beat out "Yellow Flicker Beat" by Lorde, "Big Eyes" by Lana Del Rey, "Mercy Is" by Lenny Kaye and Patti Smith and "Opportunity" by Sia, Greg Kurstin and Will Gluck. The winner was announced by Prince who made a surprise appearance.

Common gave a great acceptance speech and explained how the film about Martin Luther King opened his eyes. He says he got to know the people from the Civil Rights Movement through the film - from caring white supporters to unarmed black kids to fallen police officers. Common says Selma awakened his humanity.

Here is the music video for "Glory." The song also references the recent protests in Ferguson, Missouri saying, "That's why we walked through Ferguson with our hands up." Take a look:
