Emma Roberts and Dave Franco star in the first trailer for Nerve, which is based on the bestselling novel by Jeanne Ryan. Emma plays a high school senior named Vee Delminoco. Vee doesn't have much of a social life because she's always studying. She decides to live life a little and agrees to join the popular online game called Nerve. You agree to the rules of the game, which is a competition of dares. You are given tasks to do (the dares), which become harder as the competition goes on. The game is streamed online in real time and the watchers are also a part of the game.

One of her first tasks is to kiss a guy. So she picks Ian (Dave Franco) at a restaurant. They are teamed together for the game and are given more and more dangerous tasks. When she and Ian are told to steal the clothes they tried on at a pricey boutique (which is a felony) they strip down rather than break the law after they discover all their clothing has been stolen by someone from the game.

At first it seems like fun, but as the game goes on it become clear that the gamemasters have access to a massive database about her, which also includes everything she's ever shared about herself on social media. The gamemasters also apparently have the ability to hack all of her and her family's bank accounts and other records. If she doesn't keep playing the game, they will literally ruin her and her family's lives -- while an anonymous crowd of watchers enjoy the show.

The book was a young adult novel that lays bare the dangers of sharing information on social media. There is definitely a Hunger Games element to the game of Nerve, only its played out in the modern world. The film also stars Juliette Lewis, Jonny Beauchamp, Samira Wiley, Machine Gun Kelly and Emily Meade. The film was directed by Henry Joos and Ariel Schulman (Catfish, Paranormal Activity 3).
