Fox Cancels Simon Cowell's The X Factor

This does not come as a big surprise. Fox has canceled Simon Cowell's The X Factor in the United States. The show failed to find a big audience after three seasons.

It ends as a big failure for Simon Cowell, who vowed to topple American Idol's ratings out of the gate. Instead the reality show produced ratings much weaker than American Idol and The Voice. The Hollywood Report reports the December finale of The X Factor "closed the season down a devastating 45 percent from the previous cycle."

Yahoo has listed 16 things that went wrong with the show. The include the weird start to the reality series when they suddenly sent judge Cheryl Cole back to England. They also mention Cowell's bombastic claims that the show would get monster ratings and topple Idol even though it was on the same network as his show. The show never got even remotely close to Cowell's vows of 20 million viewers. It only averaged about 7 million viewers in the third season.

Ratings for the UK version of The X Factor have been falling as well and Cowell will be heading back to join the UK show in hopes to turn the slumping reality show around. He better fix it or we will have a failed show on both sides of the pond.
