Rorschach masks in HBO Watchmen teaser

HBO's new Watchmen series will premiere this fall. The series is based on the DC Comics graphic novel. There was a 2009 film (also titled Watchmen) directed by Zack Snyder based on the same comic.

Damon Lindelof (Lost, The Leftovers) is a writer and executive producer. HBO says Lindelof plans to "embrace the nostalgia" of the graphic novel. He is also promising an original story. He wrote an open letter to Watchmen fans that can be read on Instagram and in part on Deadline. In the letter Lindelof calls the issues of the comic the "Old Testament." He says the twelve-issue comic book series by Alan Moore is "sacred ground and they will not be retread nor recreated nor reproduced nor rebooted."

The cast includes Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Jean Smart, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Hong Chau, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, and James Wolk. Nicole Kassell (Westworld) is directing the pilot. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are writing original music for the series.

Here's the first "official tease" from HBO. There are lots of people in Rorschach masks, plus creepy "ticktock" chanting. Take a look:
