Hugh Jackman Stars in First Trailer for Logan

The first trailer for Logan dropped today and it's pretty amazing. The film stars Hugh Jackman as Logan/Wolverine sometime in the future. It's not a very inspiring future: it's more Mad Max than X-Men. Logan is losing his healing abilities, Professor X (Patrick Stewart) is older and not doing so well and it appears that the mutants have been wiped out.

Professor X convinces Logan to protect a young girl who we think is his female clone, X-23 -- although it's not spelled out in the trailer. In X-Men: Days of Future Past, the X-Men fixed the timeline so that the future was more mutant friendly. In fact, things were great at the end of the film. So what happened? Is this an alternate timeline? And could we please get out of it?

It appears that things are pretty grim in the future with cyborgs trying to take out the girl. We do hope they figure out how to get out of this future and back to one where the Mutants aren't so miserable. As for the trailer, it's grim and dark and quite moving. Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt" gives this movie a whole different spin. Take a look:
