Katherine McNamara is Clary Fray in Shadowhunters Trailer

ABC Family has released a new teaser trailer for Shadowhunters, the upcoming adaptation of Cassandra Clare's bestselling Mortal Instruments series. The first book was already made into a feature film which was released in 2013, but poor box office put a damper on plans for a sequel. But ABC Family, which changing its name to Freeform, is solidly behind the television version of the series.

The series centers around a normal teenager named Clary Fray (Katherine McNamara). Clary lives in Brooklyn with her mom. One day she finds out in a shocking way that she is not normal at all. She is a Shadowhunter, a race of half human, half angels who keep the world safe from demons. The first Shadowhunter she meets is the handsome Jace Wayland (Dominic Sherwood), who is an amazing fighter. Jace introduces her to her heritage which is helpful because Clary's mom just disappeared.

Harry Shum Jr. is Magnus Bane, Joel Labelle is Alaric, Emeraude Toubia is Isabelle Lightwood, Mattnew Daddario is Alec Lightwood, and Isaiah Mustafa (better known to many as the Old Spice guy) is Luke Garroway. Maxim Roy plays Clary's mother, Jocelyn Fray.

The trailer is solid and the effects are good. The show already seems better than the movie: they seem to have nailed the casting, especially for Jace and Magnus. It will debut on January 12, 2016.

Here is the second teaser trailer for the upcoming series. Take a look:
