Lin-Manuel Miranda Joins James Corden for Broadway Carpool Karaoke

Posted on June 7, 2016

James Corden is hosting the 70th annual Tony Awards on June 12, 2016 and is in New York this week rehearsing. What better time to do a Broadway version of Carpool Karoake? We didn't think that James could top that Adele segment, but this one is right up there as one of the best that he's done. First James picked up Hamilton star and writer Lin-Manuel Miranda, who gamely agreed to perform in a moving vehicle traveling through the crowded streets of Manhattan.

They launched into the opening number from the Tony nominated musical and James showed off his rap skills. They did a rousing version of "Guns and Ships," which they slowed down quite a bit because no one on the planet can rap as fast as Daveed Diggs, who plays the Marquis de Lafayette on Broadway.

The duo then picked up Broadway stars Audra McDonald, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and the always hilarious Jane Krakowski. After giving a heartfelt "awwww" to the opening bars of "Seasons of Love" from Rent (which James called "The most Broadway response to hearing an opening chord) they really got into the song.

James asked his commuters for advice on hosting the Tonys, and Audra told him just to have fun with it, because it's a friendly audience. They then sang "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You" from the Jersey Boys. But the piece de resistance was the final number: "One Day More," from Les Miserables. The went all out for the number, and pretty much rattled the windows. Audra's final note was unbelievable. What a voice she has. We don't see how he can top this one. Take a look:
