Netflix's Ridiculous Six Trailer Lives Up to Its Name

Posted on October 30, 2015

Netflix has released the first trailer for Adam Sandler's Western comedy The Ridiculous Six. Set in the Old West, Sandler plays a notorious bank robber named Tommy "White Knife" Stockburn. White Knife teams up with his newly discovered five half brothers to find their deadbeat dad. The six strangers embark on an adventure and slapstick comedy filled quest.

The film has an all-star cast: Terry Crews, Taylor Lautner, Steve Buscemi, Will Forte, Danny Trejo, Norm MacDonald, Nick Nolte, Jorge Garcia, Rob Schneier, Luke Wilson, Steve Zahn, Dan Ackroyd, Jon Lovitz, Blake Shelton, Rob Schneider, Chris Parnell, Vanilla Ice and Whitney Cummings are all in the film.

You may recall that the film got some very bad press when twelve of the Native American cast members walked off the set in protest of some of the dialogue which they said was racist. Sandler defended the script saying that it is a satire of the classic Old West tropes and that is clear in the film. Netflix issued a statement that said, "The movie has ridiculous in the title for a reason: because it is ridiculous. It is a broad satire of Western movies and the stereotypes they popularized, featuring a diverse cast that is not only part of — but in on — the joke."

In any event there aren't very many Native Americans featured in the trailer. Instead, the trailer focuses on White Knife's amazing climbing skills, the meeting of the long lost brothers and many slapstick gags.

The biggest surprise in the trailer is Taylor Lautner. He's playing against his action hero type. His character L'il Pete appears to be a total rube, complete with buck teeth and a silly hat. We give him props for his willingness to go along with the ridiculousness. As for Sandler, he'd got a sweet four movie deal with Netflix, this is the first of the four.

The film will be available on Netflix on December 11, 2015. Take a look:
