New Terminator: Genisys Trailer Gives Away Major Plot Twist

Posted on April 13, 2015

A new trailer for Terminator: Genisys is out and it's got a major spoiler in it. If you don't want to know, you're going to need to avoid pretty much all coverage of the film until it hits theaters on July 1st.

So in the new trailer we find out that the main villain is actually John Connor (Jason Clarke) himself. Apparently he has been turned into some kind of human-Terminator hybrid. And he seems really, really bent on wiping out humans. Naturally, his mother Sarah Connor (Emilia Clark) is extremely upset by this fact and wants to save him. Now we have no idea when this plot twist happens in the film. For all we know, it happens in the first ten minutes and the rest of the film is spent trying to fix John or go back in time before he becomes a Terminator hybrid.

In this trailer we see Sarah teaching her young son to survive -- at all costs. That directive is what led John to go Terminator -- so he can survive. But now that he's bad and had come back in time himself (which makes no sense at all if he is the leader of the resistance in the future) he's going to cause all kinds of trouble. Or perhaps we're going to get a look at several different timelines in the film.

The director has said that he film is sort of a prequel/sequel/reboot hybrid which in and of itself is disturbing. The trailer is great -- no question. But we just wish they'd pick a timeline and stick with it. And is Jai Courtney really the best choice to play Kyle Reese? We think Arnold Schwarzenegger is the best reason to see this film. Old Arnie fighting young Arnie is just too awesome. Take a look:
