Paul Rudd is Ant-Man in Awesome First Trailer

Posted on January 7, 2015

The first trailer for Marvel's Ant-Man starring Paul Rudd has finally hit. Rudd stars as con man Scott Lang, who gets a second chance in life when he is approached by Dr. Henry "Hank" Pym (Michael Douglas).

Pym convinces Lang to don his high tech suit, which can shrink him down to the size of an ant while he increases his strength. The Ant-Man suit is a dangerous invention that Pym wants to keep out of the wrong hands. Lang will do anything to help his sick little girl and agrees to a daring heist for a good cause.

The trailer gives us a few bits and pieces of the story. We see Lang entering prison in an orange jump suit and Pym offering him a second chance in life. We also get to see Lang shrink and ride a wasp, which is pretty cool. It's unclear how close the film will follow the comics. Is Pym good or bad? He was part of the Avengers, but we haven't seen him in those movies so perhaps that storyline has changed. We do get to see Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne and House of Cards' Corey Stoll as Darren Cross (who possibly is also Yellowjacket in the film version). Other supporting cast members include Hayley Atwell as Agent Peggy Carter, Judy Greer as Maggie, Bobby Cannavale as Paxton and John Slattery as Howard Stark.

The film was directd by Peyton Reed. The screenplay was written by Adam McKay and Paul Rudd, and love what we've seen so far.Rudd is perfect for the role and so is his deadpan delivery. His reaction to Pym's explanation of what he wants him to do is just priceless. The tone reminds us of Guardians of the Galaxy, only without the 70s soundtrack. It's serious and it's funny and it seems like it's really going to work. Clearly Rudd and McKay are aware that Ant-Man is not a household name and they encapsulate that perfectly when Lang inquires, "Is it too late to change the name? The film is scheduled for release on July 17, 2015. Here's the trailer:
