Ryan Reynolds Amazes in the First Deadpool Trailer

Posted on August 6, 2015

The full trailer for Deadpool is finally out and it is just what we were hoping for. Portions of the trailer were leaked earlier this year, but Marvel has added some new material and it just works perfectly.

Ryan Reynolds is just perfect as Deadpool, Marvel's wise-cracking, irreverent, super-violent superhero. Sometimes, he just has to release some rage. Luckily, he chooses to release his rage on the bad guys. Wade Wilson is a former Special Forces operative turned mercenary who discovers he has terminal cancer. In order to save his life he agrees to undergo an experimental procedure by the people who created Wolverine -- a group called Department K. The experiment is a success and he is able to heal at an accelerated rate.

There is a quite a bit more to the story in the comics, but it's unclear how closely the film will follow that backstory. In any event, he ends up as Deadpool, a superhero, but sadly is no longer as handsome as Ryan Reynolds, a fact that Deadpool acknowledges in the trailer to great comic effect.

Deadpool is nothing like Wolverine. He's profane, impulsive and absolutely hilarious. The film will be rated R and it is most definitely meant for children. The trailer is pretty much pitch perfect -- if you like this kind of thing. And we really, really like this kind of thing.

The film was directed by Tim Miller from a screenplay by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The supporting cast is excellent. Morena Baccarin plays Vanessa Carlysle/Copycat, Gina Carano plays Angel Dust, T.J. Miller plays Weasel, Ed Skreen is AjaxAdnre Tricoteux plays Piotr Rasputin/Colossus, Leslie Uggams is Blind Al and Brianna Hildebrand plays Ellie Phimster/Negasonic Teenage Warhead. The film hits theaters February 16, 2016.
