Tom Hiddleston and Jessica Chastain Star in First Trailer for Crimson Peak

Guillermo del Toro is giving audiences a big scare for Halloween this year when he releases his gothic mystery film Crimson Peak. The film stars Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska and Charlie Hunnam.

Mia Wasikowska plays Edith Cushing, an aspiring author who meets someone who seems to be the man of her dreams: Sir Thomas Sharpe (Tom Hiddleston). Edith moves into the home with Thomas and his sister, Lady Lucille Sharpe (Jessica Chastain). The house is classic gothic -- it's dark, it's mysterious and it's really, really creepy. In fact, according to del Toro the house is actually alive. But that's just part of what's going on.

In this first teaser trailer we don't learn much about the plot. But it's that Jessica Chastain's character is not happy about Edith moving in. She welcomes Edith with bizarre tales of how she and her brother were not allowed to go into parts of the house until they were adults. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Mia's character intones that the one thing she knows for sure is that ghosts are real. And we do, in fact, see creepy ghost in the house. It seems clear that Thomas has some kind of secret, and we don't think it's a crazy wife in the attic. Guillermo del Toro has said that he used Jane Eyre and Rebecca as tonal references for the story. The house was built especially for the movie and del Toro oversaw every bit of its construction. He says the film is "kinky and violent" and is a Gothic romance.

We're not sure where Charlie Hunnam's character, Dr. Alan McMichael comes in, but from the trailer it appears that he may want to rescue Edith from the house and the very strange siblings that live there. It looks simply amazing. It's set for release October 16, 2015. Take a look:
