Diane Lane to Play Hillary Clinton in New NBC Miniseries

Diane Lane will play Hillary Clinton in a new NBC miniseries. The series begins around the time of the Monica Lewinski scandal and takes viewers through Hillary's 4-year tenure as U.S. Secretary of State. The series will air in 2016, ahead of the presidential election. NBC is clearly hoping to capitalize on Hillary's possible 2016 presidential bid.

Courtney Hunt (Frozen River) will write the screenplay for NBC's series. CNN says NBC says the series will be even handed in terms of criticism and praise.

CNN looks at other actresses who have played Hillary or Hillary-like characters. President Clinton once told Harvey Weinstein he thought Meryl Streep should play Hillary. Take a look:

Update: The series ended up being canceled by NBC as EW reports. NBC said, "After reviewing and prioritizing our slate of movie/mini-series development, we’ve decided that we will no longer continue developing the Hillary Clinton mini-series."
