Avatar: The Way of Water Top Box Office for Fourth Consecutive Weekend

Avatar: The Way of Water continued its winning ways in theaters by topping the box office and adding another $45 million. This brings its total U.S. gross to over $516 million. It has topped the box office now for four straight weekends.

Avatar: The Way of Water is also the top film worldwide earning over $1.19 billion. Box Office Pro says it has already passed Top Gun: Maverick to become the biggest global release from 2022.

The Way of Water was followed by a strong opening from the horror film M3GAN, which is about a life-like robotic doll. M3GAN had a $30.2 million opening and a $8,606 per theater average. The film has a B Cinemascore, a 93% Tomatometer with a 79% Audience score so far on Rotten Tomatoes.

M3GAN was followed by Puss in Boots: The Last Wish which made $13.1 million and has grossed $87 million so far in theaters. The Tom Hanks film A Man Called Otto finished fourth and added $4.2 million as it opened to a wider audience.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever came in fifth and added $3.4 million to bring its domestic gross to $445 million. It was followed by Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody, The Whale and Babylon. You can view the box office chart for the weekend on Boxofficemojo.com.

If The Way of Water can continue making over $40 million it might be able to continue its run for a while. The biggest challenger this coming weekend appears to be the thriller Plane starring Gerard Butler.
