Weapons won the U.S. weekend box office with a $43.5 million domestic take. The film was helped by its A- CinemaScore and great reviews. It also had a strong viral campaign that started months ago as Collider notes.

Weapons made its $43.5 million in 3,202 theaters for a big $13,585 per theater average. The Warner Bros. film is directed by Zach Cregger and stars Julia Garner, Josh Brolin and Alden Ehrenreich.

Disney's Freakier Friday took second place this weekend with a moderate $28.6 million box office opening. The sequel stars Lindsay Lohan, Jamie Lee Curtis and Julia Butters. It has an A CinemaScore but could not eclipse Weapons on its second weekend.

The Marvel The Fantastic Four: First Steps fell to $15.8 million in its third weekend in theaters. It has made $230 million domestically so far.

As Inside Edition notes, Weapons crushed the box office last weekend to start its run.
