Zendaya Tops Box Office with Challengers

Challengers starring Zendaya has topped the box office. It opened with $15 million which was enough to defeat Unsung Hero, which made $7.8 million. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire was third with a $7.2 million take during its 5th weekend in theaters.

Zendaya is the star and main marketing force behind Challengers so this weekend was a win for her. She donned numerous outfits at multiple openings to help promote the film. Some of her movie tour outfits can be seen in the clip below.

Deadline calls it a Zendaya-Palooza with Dune: Part Two also still in theaters - although it is now arriving on demand.

Challengers from Amazon MGM is directed by Luca Guadagnino. Zendaya says of Luca, "Luca has such a great way of looking at each character in Challengers through such an empathetic lens, seeing them as human. He is so good at pulling nuances and human aspects of a character out so that they’re vulnerable and relatable."

Civil War came in fourth during its third weekend in theaters. It added $7 million to bring its total domestic gross to $56 million. It was followed by Abigail, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Kung Fu Panda 4 and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.

Dune Part Two by far leads the domestic box office for 2024 with $279 million and counting. Kung Fu Panda 4 is second with about $185 million.
