Matt Groening Says Homer's Hometown in The Simpsons Inspired by Springfield, Oregon

The Simpsons creator Matt Groening has revealed that Homer's hometown is inspired by Springfield, Oregon.
Groening also told Smithsonian Magazine, "I also figured out that Springfield was one of the most common names for a city in the U.S. In anticipation of the success of the show, I thought, 'This will be cool; everyone will think it's their Springfield.'And they do."
The town in The Simpsons has more of a Midwest feel to some viewers. Some of the people in the town of Springfield, Oregon do not have a problem with this and they are eager to use it to get tourists into the town. Take a look:
