Gerard Butler and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau Go to War in Gods of Egypt Trailer

Gerard Butler cut out carbs and strapped on his sandals once again to play Set, the God of Darkness, in the first trailer for Gods of Egypt. Set has taken over Egypt and blinded the honorable Horus (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau). Horus needs his eyes back, and so teams up with a young human thief named Bek (Brenton Thwaites) to defeat Set and set Egypt free.

Bek manages to steal one of Horus' powerful eyes back after going through a trap laden journey. He brings the eye to Horus and offers to help him regain his throne and save his subjects. Horus is up for the challenge and they set off to take out Set and his fearsome army.

The film also stars Geoffrey Rush as Ra, the Sun God, Eliodie Yung as Hathor the Goddess of Love and Motherhood, Courtney Eaton as Zaya, and Chadwick Boseman as Thoth, the God of Wisdom and Knowledge. The film was directed by Egyptian-born, Australian director Alex Proyas (The Crow, I Robot) from a script by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. The movie was filmed in Australia.

The trailer goes all out. All the Gods have amazing costumes and subtlety is not in fashion, at least in this version of Ancient Egypt. Set is a really bad guy who enjoys plucking out King Horus' eyes with his bare hands. There are battles, palaces, hand to hand combat, Gods, beasts, demons, terrified humans, giant beetles, and fire breathing giant snakes. Looks like fun. Take a look:
