SNL: Dead Bopz Features Dead Stars as Holograms Singing Current Hits
Posted on May 8, 2016
Brie Larson hosted Saturday Night Live and did a great job as host. One of the best sketches of the night was a faux commercial selling the Dead Bopz collection. It's like Kidz Bop, albums which feature kids singing current song, but this time it's famous dead artists appearing as holograms while singing today's hits. The segment is introduced by hologram Bing Crosby (Beck Bennett). The album features Roy Orbison (Taran Killam) singing "Sorry" Eartha Kitt singing Rihanna's "Bitch Better Have My Money, Porgy and Bess star Paul Robeson singing Fetty Wap's "Trap Queen," Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire singing and tap dancing to Pitbull's "Give Me Everything and Ethel Merman (Aidy Bryant) belting out Selena Gomez's "Can't Keep My Hands to Myself."
Brie Larson does a great Leslie Gore singing Nicki Minaj's "Dance Ass" with a whole lot of bleeping. But the best was saved for last: Tupac (Jay Pharoah) performing Taylor Swift's monster hit "Shake it Off." The entire sketch was brilliant. In fact, we think this should be an actual album. And no, we're never getting that Ethel Merman cover of "Hands to Myself" out of our heads. Take a look:
