Alicia Vikander to be the Next Lara Croft, Tomb Raider
Posted on April 29, 2016
Alicia Vikander has just been cast as the new Lara Croft. Deadline reports that Alicia will take over for Angelina Jolie, who played Lara Croft in two successful feature films.
Deadline reports that the reboot of the franchise, which is based on the popular video game, will feature Lara as a young woman, before she becomes the skilled Tomb Raider of later years. In the first film she has her first adventure. The film will be directed by Roar Uthaug (The Wave).
Alicia just won her first Oscar for her role in The Danish Girl opposite Eddie Redmayne. She won Best Supporting Actress, although she really was the lead actress in the film. The other film that cemented her reputation was her amazing performance as the robot with an agenda in Ex Machina. If you haven't seen Ex Machina yet, by all means rent it immediately.
Alicia reportedly beat out pretty much every young actress in Hollywood for the role, which would not surprise us. She is a fantastic actress. She'll next be seen in the next Jason Bourne movie, in which she co-stars with Matt Damon. We think she'll do a fabulous job as Lara Croft.
