Emma Watson and Tom Hanks Star in First Trailer for The Circle

Emma Watson and Tom Hanks star in the first trailer for the tech thriller The Circle which is based on the bestselling novel by Dave Eggers. Emma plays Mae, a brilliant young woman who lands her dream job at the world's biggest tech company, The Circle. The company is like a fusion of Apple, Google and Facebook, whose founder Eamon Bailey (Tom Hanks) believes that total transparency is the way for human society to reach its full potential.
We first meet Mae as she is being interviewed in the Google style. The interviewer is young, dressed in a t-shirt and asks her a lightning round of ridiculous questions, unrelated to the job. She nails the interview and begins work at The Circle. Eamon Bailey believes that there should be no privacy at all. His technology is so invasive that everything everyone does is instantly knowable by everyone, as mass numbers of people sign up to wear cameras that record their every action and interaction with others.
As his plan unfolds, it seems clear that there is going to be a major downside to this complete lack of privacy, especially if one's words and actions don't align with what the powers that be think is appropriate. Directed by James Ponsoldt, who also wrote the adapted screenplay, the film also stars Karen Gillan, John Boyega, Ellar Coltrane, Bill Paxton, Patton Oswalt, Glenne Headly and Nate Corddry. It hits theaters in April, 2017. Take a look:
