Tom Cruise Dies and Comes Back to Life in First Trailer for The Mummy
Posted on December 5, 2016
The first trailer in Alex Kurtzman's The Mummy is out and it's pretty amazing. Tom Cruise stars as Nick Morton, a special ops soldier who is tasked with transporting a 5,000 year old sarcophagus that was found somewhere in the Middle East. When the sarcophagus is loaded on the plane everyone gets a weird feeling coming from the coffin.
Things get really weird when a flock of birds hits the plane and they begin to crash, in a brutal scene that they actually shot in zero gravity, using the plane called the Vomit Comet over several days. Kurtzman said that he was going to film the whole thing in a "rotisserie" set like they used for Inception, but Tom Cruise insisted they also shoot in zero gravity using the infamous Vomit Comet plane. So it looks real, because it is real. Kurtzman said the crew lost their lunches a number of times during filming.
Morton manages to get Jenny Halsey (Annabelle Wallis) into a parachute before hurling her out the door, but he and the other soldiers crash and end up in a morgue. Then he wakes up, looking fresh as a daisy. So clearly something very odd went on during that mummy recovery operation.
We also get a glimpse of Russell Crowe, who plays Dr. Henry Jekyll, who runs The Prodigium, a shadowy entity that will show up in all of Universal's new monster movies. We also get to see Sofia Boutella as Princess Ahmanet, and she is not happy. She also has crazy eyes. Crazy scary, that is. The trailer is excellent and we can't wait to see this one. Take a look:
