Angels & Demons Wins Box Office

Posted on May 17, 2009

Angels & Demons won the weekend box office with a strong $48 million opening. The opening was smaller than The Da Vinci Code's $77 million opening but Angels & Demons also took in a staggering $104 million overseas. Tom Hanks reprised his professor role from the previous film.

Star Trek looks on pace to soon become the top grossing film of the year. Star Trek made $43 million in its second weekend. Star Trek is also doing well internationally - it has already made more overseas than any other Star Trek film. The movie has both great reviews from critics and good word-of-mouth from fans.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine made another $14.8 million to come in third. Ghosts of Girlfriends Past was in fourth with $6.8 million. Obsession, 17 Again and Monsters Vs. Aliens continue to linger in the top six.

Next week two potential blockbusters - Terminator Salvation and Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian - open, so the top films are likely to change.
