The Amazing Voyage of Bono's Hat

Posted on December 26, 2005

Rock star, advocate and Time magazine's Man of the Year, Bono, is a man who wears many hats. But alas, he found himself in Italy without his favorite chapeau. What's a rock star to do? He flies the hat first class from London to Italy, of course.

E Online says the Globe claims Bono spent $1,700 to fly his hat first class from London to Italy. E Online says, "No word on whether the topper enjoyed the complimentary beverage service and greater leg room of first class."

We have no details about how the hat made its way through airport security or how it traveled from the airport to Bono's hotel. But thank goodness it arrived safely. It is a shame no one was able to get a photograph of Bono's hat sitting in first class all by itself.

Update: Apparently, Bono's hat journey also included multiple taxi journeys with specific instructions given to the drivers. The hat even made into the cockpit of the British Airways flight.

A Contact Music story quotes a source for Bono as saying, "It was tricky telling the drivers and British Airways what he was after, but it all worked out."
