Despicable Me 2 Wins July 4th Weekend Box Office

Despicable Me 2 easily dominated the box office over the July 4th holiday and weekend. The film made $82.5 million during the weekend and has already grossed over $142 million during its first few days in theaters. It was followed by The Lone Ranger which is being called a bomb. The Lone Ranger managed just $29.4 million for the weekend. It barely beat The Heat, which had a very strong second weekend in theaters and made $25 million.

The Heat was followed by Monsters University which made nearly $20 million and has now made over $216 millionn. World War Z continues to perform well. The zombie thriller made another $18.2 million to bring its total domestic gross to $158 million.

World War Z was followed by White House Down nad Man of Steel. Man of Steel has reached the $271 million mark. It will have no problem breaking $300 million domestically, but Iron Man 3 looks out of reach at $406 million. Kevin Hart did well. His Let Me Explain comedy concert made $10 million in just 876 theaters. You can find the complete box office report here.
