Doctor Strange Tops Trolls to Win Weekend Box Office

Doctor Strange made about twice as much as the animated Trolls films to win the box office this weekend. Doctor Strange made nearly $85 million for yet another hit based on a Marvel comic. The film stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Vincent Strange. It has an A CinemaScore.
Trolls also has an A CinemaScore. The DreamWorks Animation picture features the voices of Anna Kendrick, Justin Timberlake and Zooey Deschanel. Trolls made $45.6 million in 4,060 theaters for an $11,232 per theater average. This was impressive but smaller than Doctor Strange's large $21,893 per theater average.
Trolls was followed by Hacksaw Ridge which stars Andrew Garfield as World War II U.S. Army Medic Desmond T. Doss. The film directed by Mel Gibson follows the true events of the Battle of Okinawa. Hacksaw Ridge made $14.8 million and has an A CinemaScore.
Boo! A Madea Halloween fell to third after two consecutive weeks as the top film in theaters. Boo! has made $65 million after three weekends. Boo! was followed by Inferno, The Accountant, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, Ouija: Origin of Evil and The Girl on the Train.
