Hidden Figures Wins Box Office for Second Consecutive Weekend

Hidden Figures won the box office this weekend for the second consecutive week. The film tells the story of brilliant African American female mathematicians who did calculations for the space program at NASA in the 1950s and 1960s. Hidden Figures made another $20.8 million this weekend to bring its total gross to $55 million after 4 weeks in theaters.

Hidden Figures stars Taraji P. Henson as Dr. Katherine G. Johnson, Octavia Spencer as Dorothy Vaughn and Janelle Monae as Mary Jackson. It had two Golden Globe award nominations and now has Oscar buzz. Hidden Figures was followed by La La Land, which also has major Oscar buzz following its Golden Globes success.

La La Land was followed by Sing, which has amassed $233 million after 4 weeks in theaters. The horror thriller The Bye Bye Man opened in fourth and made $13.5 million. It was followed by Rogue One, which has has now eclipsed the $500 million mark domestically.
