Hotel Transylvania won the box office this weekend with a huge $43 million take. See the trailer below. Deadline reports that this broke the all-time September opening record, which was previously held by Sweet Home Alabama. Looper, a science fiction thriller starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis, also performed well. It made $21.2 million and has great word of mouth and great reviews.

Looper was followed by End of Watch, Trouble with the Curve and House at the End of the Street. Pitch Perfect made a very impressive opening in sixth place. The comedy, which stars Anna Kendrick, made over $5 million despite appearing in just 335 theaters. That's over $15,000 per theater. The film will expand to a wide release this weekend.

Won't Back Down, starring Viola Davis and Maggie Gyllenhaal, did not fare well. It made just $2.7 million with an average of just over $1,000 per theater. You can see the complete box office report here.
