Katy Perry will be host of this year's MTV VMAs. She will also perform live at the event that is broadcast live from Inglewood, Calif. on Sunday, August 27. Katy will be the first performer of the evening. She wears a spacesuit in the promo for the annual awards show.
Katy says in the announcement, "I've been training with MTV in zero gravity, eating astronaut ice cream, and I’m on a group text with Buzz Aldrin and Neil deGrasse Tyson. Come August 27th, I’ll be ready to be your MOONWOMAN! Brace for impact, kids."
MTV says, "We're thrilled to have global phenomenon Katy Perry as the host and a performer at the 2017 VMAs,” Bruce Gillmer, Head of Music and Music Talent, Global Entertainment Group, Viacom. “She is at the forefront of music culture and the perfect person to anchor this year’s show, which promises to be one of the most diverse and music-filled in VMA history."
Katy released her latest album Witness earlier this year. She shared the news on Twitter along with a video of her floating in space. She calls herself the "Moonwoman" in reference to the famous Moonman MTV award.
