Lego Batman Tops The Great Wall to Win Box Office Again

Posted on February 19, 2017

The Lego Batman Movie easily won the box office again this weekend. It made another $34.2 million to bring its total gross to $98.7 million after two weekends. The hilarious Lego Batman movie fell just 35% from the previous weekend.

Fifty Shades Darker came and second and made $21 million during its second weekend in theaters. The sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey was also defeated by Lego Batman during its opening weekend. Fifty Shades Darker was followed by The Great Wall which opened in third and made $18 million. This was a weaker than expected U.S. opening for the film but it has already made over $240 million overseas (including $170 million in China) so it will still be a big hit for Universal, Matt Damon and director Zhang Yimou.

The Great Wall was followed by John Wick: Chapter Two which made $16.5 million during its second weekend in theaters. The comedy Fist Fight opened in fifth. It stars Ice Cube and Charlie Day. Fist Fight was followed by Hidden Figures, Split, A Dog's Purpose and La La Land.

The horror movie A Cure for Wellness had a weak opening. It made $4.2 million in 2,704 theaters. The film directed by Gore Verbinski and stars Dane DeHaan, Jason Isaacs and Mia Goth. This lineup gives Lego Batman a good shot at a third consecutive win.
