Lone Survivor Wins Weekend Box Office

Lone Survivor, starring Mark Wahlberg and Taylor Kitsch, easily won the weekend box office this weekend. It made $38.5 million, which is the second biggest opening in January. The film is based on the 2005 SEAL Team 10 mission, Operation Red Wings. It is directed by Peter Berg and based on a novel by Marcus Luttrell.
Lone Survivor was followed by Frozen and The Wolf of Wall Street. The other new film opening this weekend, The Legend of Hercules, is tied with American Hustle for fourth. Each film made $8.6 million. The new Hercules film stars Kellan Lutz in the lead role. It is a weak opening for the film at just $4,087 per theater.
