Malala and Stephen Colbert Do Card Tricks

Posted on September 27, 2015

Malala Yousafzai is only eighteen years old, but she has already won the Nobel Peace Prize. She runs a foundation and speaks all over the world to promote the rights of young women to receive an education. Shot in the head by the Taliban in 2012 for daring to speak out on behalf of girls, she recovered and lives in England with her family. She was a guest on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to talk about the new documentary about her life, He Named Me Malala.

Malala spoke to the United Nations after Pope Francis and then headed over to do this interview. With all the seriousness of the issues she supports, some people are surprised to see what a great sense of humor Malala has. She also does card tricks.

Stephen did a silly trick to warm things up then shuffled the deck and turned it over to Malala. She had Stephen pick a card and at first it seemed that the trick had gone wrong. But it had not gone wrong and she managed to impress Stephen and the audience with her sleight of hand.

Stephen did a fantastic job of interviewing her. He touched on some serious issues including being shot and the difficult recovery. She talked about how she views the world and the subject of forgiveness. She explained, "I think of the world as a happy place. And I believe that I should treat others the way I want them to treat me. I want everyone to be kind to me, to love me, to take care of me, to forgive me if I do something bad. And that’s what I have chosen in my mind: I have forgiven them." She is an amazing young woman.

Here she is doing her card trick:
