Neil Patrick Harris Stars in Full Trailer for Netflix's A Series of Unfortunate Events

Netflix has released the full trailer for the first season of A Series of Unfortunate Events and it is glorious. The show is based on the bestselling series by Daniel Handler. The siblings, Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire, live a wonderful life until the day they learn that their parents died in a terrible fire that also destroyed their home.

The children are sent to live with their new guardian, Count Olaf who is played by Neil Patrick Harris with devilish glee. Olaf is determined to steal the Baudelaire fortune and is a most unsuitable guardian. But the Baudelaire orphans are very smart and quite resourceful and manage to stay one step ahead of Count Olaf, despite his myriad disguises. Jim Carrey did a fantastic job as Count Olaf in the feature film version of the story, and his performance will be hard to top. But it appears that Neil Patrick Harris is up to the task. We also miss Jude Law's narration.

Patrick Warburton plays the story's narrator Lemony Snicket. Malina Weissman plays Violet Baudelaire and Louis Hynes plays Klaus Baudelaire. The series also stars Joan Cusack, Aasif Mandvi, Alfre Woodard, Matty Cardarople, John DeSantis, Mary Black, Elizabeth Bowen and K. Todd Freeman as Mr. Poe. The trailer is more lighthearted than the feature film, but given all the scenes of children in life-threatening situations, that makes sense. The look of the film is marvelous and the orphans appear to be perfectly cast.

Author Daniel Handler and Barry Sonnenfeld (Men in Black) have created what looks like another hit for Netflix. The series will debut on January 13, 2017, which seems a long way away. Take a look:
