Pacific Rim Uprising Tops Weekend Box Office
Posted on March 26, 2018
Pacific Rim Uprising is the #1 film in theaters. The sequel's $28 million opening weekend wasn't a huge debut but it was enough to win the weekend and prevent Black Panther from being the number one film in theaters for six straight weekends. Jake Pentecost and Mako Mori lead a new generation of Jaeger pilots in the sequel. The film has a B CinemaScore.
Black Panther slipped the #2 slot during its sixth weekend in theaters ending its consecutive box office streak at five. The mega earner added $16.6 million and has now made over $630 million. It is fifth on the all time box office list (not adjusted for inflation). It is less than $30 million shy of Titanic for the third spot.
Black Panther was followed by I Can Only Image and the new arrival Sherlock Gnomes. Sherlock Gnomes had a $10 million opening. The animated gnome mystery has a B+ CinemaScore. It was followed by Tomb Raider, A Wrinkle in Time and Love, Simon.
Paul, Apostle of Christ opened in eighth with a $3,394 per theater average. This weeks other two wide releases - Midnight Sun and Unsane - failed to average over $2,000 per theater.
