Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 Tops Weekend Box Office

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows was the top film in theaters this weekend. It opened with $35 million. This was considerably smaller than the 2014 opening for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles of $65 million. The film stars Megan Fox, Stephen Amell and Will Arnett. It has an A- CinemaScore.

X-Men: Apocalypse finished second. It plunged 66% from its previous week as moviegoers seemed harder to come by this weekend. It has now made $178 million after two weekend in theaters.

Me Before You opened in third and made $18 million. It had a strong $6,757 per theater average. The film starring Emilia Clark and Sam Calflin is based on the romantic novel by Jojo Moyes. It has an A CinemaScore.

Me Before You was followed by Alice Through the Looking Glass, The Angry Birds Movie, Captain AMerica: Civil War and Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. Civil War is now just $12 million away from the $400 mark. It is the top film in theaters so far this year.

The other big opening film this weekend was Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping. Popstar appears to parody Justin Bieber and stars Andy Samberg. It did not have a strong opening and made just $4.6 million on a $2,003 per theater average. Popstar has a B CinemaScore.

Popstar was followed by The Jungle Book, The Nice Guys, Love & Friendship and Money Monster. You can view the box office chart for the weekend here.

New arrivals this coming weekend include The Conjuring 2, Now You See Me 2 and Warcraft. It will be a big test for Blizzard Entertainment to see if the World of Warcraft based film can take the weekend.
