The Avengers Passes $1.5 Billion Milestone

Marvel's The Avengers has now grossed over $1.5 billion worldwide at the box office. It is only the third film in history to make this much money. You can see the all-time worldwide grosses list here. Only Avatar and Titanic have made more.

The monster gross for The Avengers is a big reason why director Joss Whedon landed a deal to direct the sequel and to develop an ABC TV series based on S.H.I.E.L.D. The tv show is a very exciting development. Whedon has said the tv show will be "entirely autonomous" from the movies. It isn't exactly clear yet how they will manage that.
