The Fate of the Furious Tops Box Office for Second Straight Weekend

The Fate of the Furious had an easy route to number one again this weekend. It made $38.4 to win the box office for the second straight weekend. The Fate has made $163 million after two weekends in theaters and has already passed the $900 mark worldwide. It was passed by The Boss Baby which fell just 20% from the previous weekend and added $12 million during its fourth weekend in theaters.

The Boss Baby was followed by Beauty and the Beast which added nearly ten million during its sixth weekend. The Disney film starring Emma Watson is nearing the $500 million at $470.8 million. Going in Style finished in fourth with Smurfs: The Lost Village taking fifth place.

This was not a great weekend for new films. Born in China from Disneynature was the best performing new arrival. It opened in sixth and made $4.8 million. The three other opening films - Unforgettable, The Promise and Phoenix Forgotten all had opening per theater averages of less than $2,000 per theater. Phoenix Forgotten had a low CinemaScore of a C-.

You can find the weekend box office chart here. The Fate of the Furious could be knocked from the top spot this coming weekend when it faces The Circle, a technology thriller starring Emma Watson and Tom Hanks. Other new arrivals include How to Be a Latin Lover, Sleight and Buster's Mal Heart.
