Thor: Ragnarok Wins Box Office With $121 Million Opening

Marvel helped turn the box office around this weekend. Thor: Ragnarok had a huge $121 million opening. Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor who gets imprisoned on another planet. Other stars include Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Tessa Thompson and Jeff Goldblum. Ragnarok has a strong A CinemaScore. This is Marvel's 17th consecutive number one opening.
A Bad Moms Christmas opened in second place. The bad moms in the holiday comedy are played by Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn. Bad Moms made $17 million for its debut with a modest $4,711 per theater average. It has a B CinemaScore. The box office trailer off after the Bad Moms with no other film making over $10 million this weekend.
A Bad Moms Christmas was followed by Jigsaw, Tyler Perry's Boo 2: A Madea Halloween, Geostorm and Happy Death Day. You can find the box office chart for the weekend here.
Thor: Ragnarok has a good shot at repeating next weekend. It will have to defeat Murder on the Orient Express, Daddy's Home 2 and Thelma to keep the number one spot. Ragnarok won't be able to three-peat with Justice League arriving in theaters on November 17 but it is likely to dominate theaters until then.
