The Hunger Games Wins Box Office for Second Consecutive Weekend

Posted on April 1, 2012

The Hunger Games easily won the box office again this weekend. It made $61 million to push its total box office over the $250 million mark. This was the seventh top grossing second weekend of all time. The Hunger Games is already 65th on the all time domestic grosses chart. It opened with the third biggest debut weekend of all time.

The Hunger Games was followed by two new opening films: Wrath of the Titans and Mirror Mirror. Wrath of the Titans, starring Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson and Rosamund Pike, made $34 million. This was a big number, but less than the opening for Clash of the Titans. Mirror Mirror, starring Lily Collins as Snow White, made $19 million and came in third. The film did well with families with young girls and could be a draw over the Easter holiday.

21 Jump Street finished fourth. It continues to do well and added another $15 million to bring its total box office gross to $93 million. 21 Jump Street was followed by The Lorax, John Carter and Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. You can see the complete box office weekend report here.

American Reunion will attempt to dethrone The Hunger Games this coming weekend.
